New European Battery regulation

EU Regulation 2023/1542: Europe rewrites the rules of the game for batteries.

As of February 18, 2024, the new European Battery Regulation is officially in effect.

The goal? To harmonize rules across the EU and make the entire battery lifecycle more sustainable, traceable, and safe.

What changes – concretely – for those working with industrial and EV batteries?

Obligation to declare carbon footprint and include recycled materials
⚡ Digital Battery Passport and QR code with full battery information (from 2027)
⚡ Mandatory disassembly and durability requirements to reduce environmental impact
⚡ Social and environmental due diligence on raw materials supply chains
⚡ Ambitious targets for free collection and efficient recycling

Our lithium battery partner Flash Battery put together a comprehensive guide covering all the requirements, deadlines, and concrete actions to tackle this change.

Since their founding, they commit every day to supporting a more responsible and conscious industrial machinery and vehicle market, aiming to reduce environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle.
